Network Infrastructure
No matter where in the world you (or visitors to your web site) are, access to your ANNO web server will always be as fast as or faster than the average. To guarantee fast and reliable access, we have selected prime locations in the U.S.A. and South Africa to house our web servers.
Key Issues
- Strategic global positioning
- Strategic Partnerships
- Reliable Virtual Server Network Infrastructure
- Server Monitoring
- Virtual Web Servers
Strategic Global Positioning
Our data centres in Atlanta and Washinton D.C., U.S.A, and Cape Town, South Africa, provide fast and reliable connectivity to the global Internet.
Strategic Partnerships
Our partnership with leading international data centres is an essential ingredient in our recipe for success. We learn from and rely heavily on technology leaders like DV2, ItItem and Zone Edit. Instead of re-inventing the wheel, we often add value to and resell services provided by these companies.
Reliable Virtual Server Network Infrastructure
Careful choice of computer and network hardware and Internet backbone service providers guarantee fast and reliable web hosting.
Your web site is important to us. If nobody can connect to it, it's useless. We make sure your web site is up and running, all day, every day. But it's not just reliable, it's blazing fast. Our virtual servers are as fast and reliable as current technology allows.
Speed, reliability and security can be guaranteed because:
- Redundant Internet Connections: Our U.S. servers are connected to the Internet through fully redundant, multiple global, T3 IP carriers using load balancing to mulitple backbones. If any one of the connections goes down, the other one can reroute the traffic in seconds while we work on getting the connection back up. All without the slightest interruption in performance.
- Our South African servers work off a very reliable 100 Mbit connection to UUnet. UUnet is the world's largest carrier of global Internet traffic.
- Redundant Routers: Traffic from the server systems are routed to the redundant connections through redundant routers. A series of Cisco routers and Catalyst switches handle traffic from our servers to the Internet. If a router or hub does go down, your web server will stay online.
Server Monitoring
We employ a state of the art "robot monitoring" of all servers. Even if something goes wrong in the middle of the night, we will be alerted of severe problems.
Unfortunately problems sometimes do occur - even an ANNO Web Server is is not perfect. Should your web site become inaccessible, our approach would as follows:
- We always attempt to first restart the web server software. On today's Unix and Windows 2000 platforms, most problems of inaccessibility can be solved tis way.
- We would restart a physical computer only in extreme cases. We generally try to avoid restarting the computer housing your virtual web server in an effort to prevent downtime for other web sites on the same computer.
You can rest assured that the stable running of your web site is just an high a priority for us as it is for you.
Virtual Web Servers
The physical web servers are state-of-the-art PCs with sufficient RAM and fast Ultra Wide SCSI hard drives. They are connected with a 10/100 Ethernet connection and mounted in lock-down dual-fan racks.
The Linux servers are running Red Hat Linux with Apache Web Server. The operating system and core components support a fully virtual hosting environment.
Our Windows 2000 virtual servers utilise Microsoft's Internet Information Server 5.0 for the Web server and iMail server for e-mail.
